44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is “a liar” and “the father of lies.”
(John 8:44)
Satan is a murderer
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
(John 10:10)
Seems odd that ‘murder’ is inserted into a passage that deals extensively with the devil as a liar. Satan’s ultimate goal for every lie he tells is your death . . . your destruction.
Be self–controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
1 Peter 5:8
Your total, complete destruction is the devil’s primary goal—his main weapon is to get us to believe his lies . . . many of which we’ll examine in the following weeks
There is no truth in Satan
You may have heard of the little boy who had trouble telling the truth. His mother was exasperated with him, and often made him stand in a corner.
One day she asked him, “Son, what is a lie?” He replied, “Mother, a lie is an abomination to the Lord, but a very present help in time of need.”
Mark Twain said, “The difference between a person who tells the truth and one who tells a lie is that the liar has to have a better memory.”
Lying is popular today. That’s because we have believed the devil’s lie that truth doesn’t really matter. In fact, Satan has convinced many people that there is no such thing as absolute truth, so there can be no absolute lie either.
Satan’s dedication to lying is complete.
His dedication to untruth is a lethal weapon he wants to use on us.
The devil is incapable of telling the truth – unless he can tell a partial – truth to corrupt the whole truth, or twist the truth to his nefarious purposes.
He twisted the truth when talking to Eve, as Genesis 3:1–5 clearly shows. Satan said, in essence, “If you know good and evil, you’ll be equal to God.”
That’s like saying, “If you drink gasoline, you’ll be a car!” Satan twisted the truth, and so enslaved humanity from that day to this
The devil is ‘the father of lies’
In other words, satan is the chief liar, worse than everyone else; he is the true source of all lying. His lies have the power to corrupt and ruin lives.
Only when we recognize satan’s lies and counteract them with God’s truth can we succeed in overcoming the awful effect of demonic untruth.
