“If you remain in me, and I remain in you, you will bear much fruit.” (John 15:5)
Every believer desires a life that reflects the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Yet often, our attempts to “grow” these qualities leave us weary and frustrated. The truth is, spiritual fruit doesn’t grow by striving harder—it grows as we learn to abide in Christ’s love.
That’s the heart behind an upcoming workshop at Covenant Bible Institute (CBI): The Art of Receiving & Returning Jesus’ Love.
This one-day event, presented in partnership with the Spiritual Formation Society of Washington (SFSWA), is an invitation to slow down, rest in God’s presence, and discover rhythms that bring deeper joy, peace, and freedom.

Why This Workshop Matters for Believers
In a busy world filled with constant noise and pressure, it’s easy for our faith to become another item on the to-do list. We read, pray, serve, and lead—but sometimes forget to purposefully, intentionally receive and return God’s love.
This workshop offers a sacred space to step away from distraction and rediscover what it means to truly abide in Christ. Through teaching, reflection, and guided spiritual practices, participants will explore how to:
- Experience God’s love more deeply in daily life
- Develop spiritual rhythms that foster inner peace and renewal
- Live and lead from a place of rest rather than striving
- Cultivate a heart that naturally bears the fruit of the Spirit
Rather than offering a list of spiritual “tasks,” The Art of Receiving & Returning Jesus’ Love focuses on grace-filled practices that open us to the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.

Meet the Workshop Speakers
This special event features a team of experienced speakers and spiritual directors from the Spiritual Formation Society of Washington, each bringing a unique perspective on living from the love of Christ.
Terry Andres — A member of the SFSWA Board of Directors and Ministry Team, Terry’s life and teaching flow from his “sacred romance with the Trinity.” He believes in the power of joy and wonder in the Christian journey—summed up by one of his favorite sayings: “Never give a sword to a man who cannot dance.”
Marilyn Vancil — Author, speaker, workshop facilitator, spiritual director, and coach, Marilyn delights in helping others discover new experiences of freedom and grace. She counts it a privilege to witness God guiding people into a deeper awareness of His love in their everyday stories.
Krisi Sonneland — President of SFSWA and an experienced spiritual director, Krisi views her role as that of a gentle companion—walking alongside those who seek to notice and respond to God’s loving presence in the ordinary moments of life.
David Carlson — An Enneagram coach and retired healthcare executive, David’s personal journey from “doing” to resting in God’s love reshaped his life entirely. Now in training as a spiritual director, he is passionate about helping others experience that same joy and freedom.
Together, these leaders will guide participants through a meaningful day of reflection, teaching, and shared spiritual practices—all centered on the transforming love of Jesus.
What to Expect at the Workshop

Throughout the day, participants will be invited into a rhythm of learning, reflection, and prayer. The atmosphere will be gentle and unhurried—allowing space for God to speak and for hearts to rest in His presence.
The workshop will include:
- Inspirational sessions led by the speakers
- Guided times of silence and reflection to help you listen for God’s voice
- Opportunities for small group connection and spiritual conversation
- Practical tools and spiritual rhythms to carry into your daily walk
Lunch is provided, offering time for fellowship and connection with others who share a desire to grow in Christ’s love. You’ll leave feeling refreshed, encouraged, and equipped to nurture your relationship with God in deeper, more natural ways.
Who Should Attend?
This event is for everyone who desires to live more deeply rooted in God’s love. You might be:
- A pastor, ministry leader, or volunteer longing for spiritual renewal
- A student or young adult seeking clarity and peace in your faith journey
- A busy professional or parent who struggles to slow down and rest in God’s presence
- Or simply a believer who wants to experience the fruit of the Spirit more fully in daily life
Wherever you are on your journey, this workshop will help you take a meaningful step toward a life of greater joy, freedom, and spiritual fruitfulness.
A Space to Receive, Rest, and Respond
At Covenant Bible Institute, we believe that Christian growth flows from relationship, not religious performance. The more we receive Jesus’ love, the more naturally we reflect it to others.
This workshop is a chance to pause—to breathe deeply, listen carefully, and open your heart again to the One who loves you beyond measure. As Jesus said, “If you remain in me, and I remain in you, you will bear much fruit.”
Let this be a day where you rediscover that truth and carry it forward into every area of your life.
