Professor Alec Paul
Batch B.A., M.Div.
Pastoral Leadership
Alec Paul grew up believing that he was a Christian but he hated church and had never opened a Bible. After graduating with a business management degree from the University of Alaska - Anchorage in 2000, he heard the gospel in a compelling way for the first time, and the trajectory of his life changed forever. Soon he was getting baptized, taking Bible classes, and regularly serving at his church. In 2005 he went into business for himself and God blessed him with success in the real estate finance industry for over a decade. Along the way he married his wife Becky and they adopted two children. He continued to serve in his church as a lay leader until he decided to sell his business in 2016 to pursue his higher calling: to preach the gospel to the lost and hurting world he once lived in. He graduated from Multnomah Biblical Seminary in 2019 with a Master’s of Divinity and was the lead pastor of The Ridge Bible Church in Graham, Washington from 2019-2023.
Professor Michael Lindholm
A.A., B.A., M.B.S.
Church History & Biblical Studies
I was born and raised in Chicago and the Chicago area. I was baptized in the Swedish Covenant Church, confirmed in a Methodist church, and in my young adult life belonged to Willow Creek Church when it started with about 200 people in a movie theatre watching it grow into a mega-church with about 10,000 people when I left Chicago.
I graduated from North Park College (Chicago) with degrees in Biology and Chemistry. Later I obtained an electronics degree from DeVry College. Out of college I worked as a research technician at the University of Illinois Circle Campus doing muscle research on Muscular Dystrophy. Then I worked as a Medical Technician in a hospital and later a service engineer fixing hospital lab equipment.
When I moved to Washington State in the 1980’s I was a Research Technician as part of a team doing Cardiac Research at the University of Washington. Later I took a position with Waters Corporation as a service engineer for 22 years installing, training, and fixing High Performance Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectroscopy Equipment. I spent an additional seven years in Customer Education for that company teaching biochemistry and the science of Chemical Separations for Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Companies.
Sometime around 2004 I began to take classes at the Covenant Bible Seminary on a quest to find out what church I should belong to – taking all the Church History Classes multiple times. I discovered with the help of great teachers that denominations do not matter – but rather a church that has the two witnesses – the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. From the Covenant Bible Seminary I obtained a Masters in Biblical Studies and a Masters in Divinity. I have been teaching here at the school for about six blessed years after I retired from Waters.
Dr. Daniel Holcomb
B.A., M.S., M.Div., D.Min.
Practical Theology & Hermeneutics
Dan grew up in central Indiana in a quasi-religious household. His parents were devout
CEO’s (Christmas and Easter Only) church goers.
He became a Christian at age 17 but was not discipled in any sense of the word. At age
21(while in the Air Force) he started attending church again and eventually gained some
deeper understanding of being born again and then heard the voice of God call him to
the ministry.
At the end of his military commitment, he enrolled in the University of New Mexico and
after earning his B.A. headed west to Golden Gate Seminary in the Bay Area of
California. While there he was recruited into the National Guard as a Chaplain
Candidate. Upon graduation (MDiv.) he was made a chaplain and applied for active
duty. The Army said thanks, but no thanks. He stayed in the guard and reserve until
December 2012 when, after numerous mobilizations and deployments, he retired at the
rank of Lieutenant Colonel with a total service time of thirty-one years.
Along the way he pastored churches in California and Washington state as well as two
military congregations while mobilized.
Having met Dr. Merritt Lawson through some seminary students he enrolled in the
seminary to earn his DMin. While still working on that degree, Dr, Lawson asked him to
come onboard and teach the preaching class. That was 2017 and since then he has
taught numerous classes with his personal interest being hermeneutics and
transformational discipleship.

Biblical Theology, Ecclesiology & Missiology
Michael was born in California and grew up in western Washington. In high school Christ encountered him dramatically and transformed him deeply, awakening a call to ministry. After completing Bachelor’s degree in theology and history at Whitworth University in Spokane, WA, Michael spent two years pursuing further training in the U.K., completing two graduate degrees in theology at the University of Oxford and an evangelistic training course at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics.
Since 2017 Michael has served in full-time ministry leading Thrive Harbor, a cross-church, interdenominational ministry for young adults in Gig Harbor, WA. His goal is to give the rest of his life to knowing God and introducing Him to others, and considers it a privilege to pursue both those things through teaching at CBI. In his spare time, Michael enjoys hiking, classical music, going on prayer walks, and reading way too many books.
Dr. John Golling
B.S.B.Ed., M.Div, D.Min.
Registrar, Director of Student Life & Kairos University Advisor
John was raised in a military family and by the time he graduated from High School he had moved 8 times, attended more than 8 schools, lived in 6 different states, (from the deep South of Georgia, to small country towns like Mountain Home, Idaho, to major cities like San Francisco) and 2 foreign countries (Germany and Korea). This wide range of experiences has shaped how he related to others and his outlook on life.
He was born into a Greek Orthodox family, was baptized as an infant, and was an altar boy in the Greek Orthodox church when he was 10 years old. Shortly after that, his family began attending Chapel services on a military base, and later they attended baptist, charismatic, and a variety of other protestant churches. Again, this wide range of experiences shaped how John related to his spiritual life and what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
In 1991, John attended Multnomah Bible College (aka Multnomah University), and earned his Bachelor of Science in Biblical Education in 1996. He continued his studies at Multnomah Biblical Seminary, earning his Master of Divinity degree in 2000. After graduation, he began serving as a full-time associate pastor at a church in Puyallup, Washington, where he would continue to serve for the next 19 years!
John began teaching at Covenant Bible Institute in 2022, and soon after, he became the Registrar and Director of Student Life. In 2023, he earned his Doctorate of Ministry degree from our partner school, Kairos University. His doctoral thesis work centered on multi-family housing ministry, and in the process he became the founder and director of the Community Caring Resource Network, which is an outreach ministry of CBI.
John and his wife Sandra have been married for 32 years, and they have 2 adult daughters and 3 granddaughters. His hobbies include traveling, hiking, reading/ listening to audio books, working on his treehouse, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren!!
