Is it important for Christians to study the Old Testament?  What difference does it make to a follower of Jesus to know the ancient history of the nation of Israel?  After the death and resurrection of Jesus, He appeared to two of His followers along the road to Emmaus.  This is the final phase of Jesus’ ministry on the earth, and some of His final teaching to His followers before He left.  And what did Jesus choose to talk about?  How did Jesus spend this precious little time left with these followers?  It says that “beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in the Scriptures.”  In His final days on earth, Jesus chose to have an Old Testament survey course with these disciples!!  

In our Old Testament Survey course, we will certainly cover many of the things Jesus must have told them concerning the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in their plan of redemption for a fallen people through space-time history. I pray that this course will be a blessing for those who want to connect the dots’ with the purposes of God concerning His children.

Using the Bible as our guide and our lens of evaluation, Professor Alec Paul will highlight dozens of firsthand controversies he encountered on the frontlines of modern, pastoral ministry and invite students to discover the valuable lessons learned in each.

What is my purpose in life? Do I have a specific calling? How do I discover God’s plan for my existence? What are my passions? And how do I put my gifts and talents to the best use? These are key questions we often ask ourselves, usually during certain seasons of our lives. And then there is the really big question: Who am I? The answer from popular media is … “You can be whatever you want.” But is that true? Can I really be anything I set out to be, or has God uniquely designed me for a specific purpose? And if so, how does He show us what that is? In this class we will wrestle with various views on discovering one’s identity, and the related concepts of vocation or calling, and formative relational connections.

This class is about discovering the freedom of a steward leader. Too often, well-intentioned leaders become bound in chains because they accept a way of leading that is not God’s way. This bondage can spiral downward with disastrous consequences if truth does not set them free. We will look carefully at both the freedom God offers us and the chains we wear. Becoming a steward leader is a journey from bondage to freedom that will equip you to lead with freedom and peace and to live the abundant life Jesus promised for every one of us. Join us and discover this freedom for your life and leadership.
