The Bible says, “When the fulness of the time had come, God sent His Son into the world.“ Jesus was born, and lived his day-to-day life in a very specific time, place, and culture. This class is an exploration of the world of the Messiah. We will examine the political, economic, and religious influences that occurred during these times. This class will use a chronological framework to look at the people, events, and books of the New Testament describing the life of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit with the birth and rise of the early church – and how it gives lessons for us today

Everywhere we turn, we can find the “walking wounded"- people who carry deep hurts from the past, feel the frustrations of the present, and battle anxiety about the future. Today, we are surrounded by those who have suffered trauma, and Gen Z has been dubbed the “anxious generation”. And while many have observed a sharp decline in church attendance in recent decades, there has been a resurgence of interest and curiosity about spirituality and what it looks like to follow Jesus. Our present cultural moment may represent an opportunity for the everyday followers of Jesus to extend a hand of compassion and a message of healing to those desperately seeking hope. This class equips Christians to offer informed support, and a Christ-centered approach to walking alongside those who are suffering emotional, relational, and spiritual difficulties.

We now live in a world where we are bombarded daily with messages from sources with names like: fake news, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence. Do you notice something about those? The names themselves indicate that they are NOT REAL! From click-bait to the relativism of our highest educational institutions, it can feel as if we are losing our grip on TRUTH. Even among Christians there are ongoing, and sometimes heated, debates as to what Christian books or authors we should consider trustworthy and biblical? And what fields of study (such as psychology or sociology) are compatible with a Christian worldview? This leads us to the age-old question asked of Jesus, “What is truth?” Who and what can we trust as a source of truth? In this course we will explore these questions and more as we seek to become discerning and wise followers of Jesus, who can live, thrive, and minister in a culture filled with deception and doubt.

Too many Christians are drowning in the aggressive “hustle culture” of our current time. In this course, participants will build a framework for “living from rest” that will help them to order their time and actions in alignment with their biblical values, rather than artificial pressures and the demands of others. Through the "Realife Process” students will learn the four essential components of a balanced and healthy Christian walk, explore the historic tradition of developing a “Rule of Life”, and the spiritual practices that support “life to the fullest” (John 10:10).

* Enrollment in this course includes a 1-Day Soul Care Experience on May 16th, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  The weekly class dates vary slightly from the regular Spring Quarter schedule, as it is a 6-week class, plus the one day conference.
