A Closer Look at Our 2025 Winter Quarter Classes

This Winter Quarter provides a unique opportunity to advance your academic journey while growing closer to God. Our courses are designed not only to equip students with a deeper understanding of Scripture but also to foster a more vibrant and transformative relationship with Christ. Here’s a brief overview of each course:

Monday: Looking for Hope in Dark Times

In a world full of hardship and uncertainty, the question remains: where can we find hope? The Book of Jeremiah, known for its powerful message of judgment and restoration, offers profound insights into our lives today. In this course, Professor Mike Lindholm will guide students through the life and message of the prophet Jeremiah, showing how his words can provide comfort and direction in the darkest of times.

Tuesday: Seeing the Big Picture

The Old Testament is often misunderstood, but it holds crucial keys to understanding God’s redemptive plan. In this course, Dr. Michael Shoemaker will take you on an in-depth journey through the Old Testament, starting in Genesis and continuing through to Esther. You’ll explore the historical and cultural contexts of the books and discover how they set the stage for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This class will equip you with a solid foundation for understanding the Old Testament as a unified story of God’s salvation plan.

Wednesday: Understanding Biblical and Systematic Theology

How should we approach the Bible, this sacred and complex book? Should we study it topically, or is there a more unified way to understand God’s Word? In this class, Professor Michael Bouterse will explore these questions by guiding students through the Bible’s overarching narrative, showing how it presents a cohesive story that points to Jesus Christ. You will gain valuable insights into both biblical and systematic theology, laying the groundwork for further theological study.

Thursday: A Theology of Spiritual Formation

The journey of spiritual transformation is at the heart of the Christian faith. In this course, Dr. Dan Holcomb will explore how we can be “formed in Christ” by following His example and embracing the practices that shape us into His image. Just as athletes train their bodies to reflect the discipline of their heroes, Christians are called to spiritually “train” and reflect the character of Christ. This class will teach you how to pursue spiritual formation and develop habits that foster deep, Christlike transformation.
